Mobile use of the internet is on the rise. Groningen now has the ability to monitor its website on the use of mobile devices. Since the start of this analysis-tool (part of Google analytics) on Nov 3rd 2009, the Groningen website was visited by more than 5500 mobile visitors. Daily, between 20 and 70 mobile users visit our website.

The March 3th 2010 municipal elections gave a very distinct peak: the amount of visitors soared to 338 on March 4th!

60% Of all visitors used an iPhone, 17% an Symbian (Nokia-phone), 6% an Android and 6% an iPod Touch. So, with just 4 Operating Systems, 90% of all mobile users could be reached!

The total percentage of mobile visitors is still low, about 0,7% of all visits. This is not surprising, considering that the Groningen site is not optimized yet for mobile use, and the municipality does not promote mobile use yet.

The Groningen municipality will continue to monitor the use of mobile devices on its website, and wil use the results in improving her services to customers.
