Bremerhaven, August 2011. At the Steering Committee Meeting this May in Bremerhaven the Bluetooth and WLAN- activities, the components of the work packages from the Smart Cities project (WP3 and WP4) were visited and presented in the context of the entire touristic information system for Bremerhaven.
WLAN will be included in the EBSF-Project (European Bus Systems of the Future) of the 7th Framework Program. Within the scope of this project six of the ten next generation info terminals have now been set up in both travel directions along the bus line 502. Two of these info terminals are located near the touristically centralized bus stop „Havenwelten“.
The Internet offers for both these info terminals are made available through a WLAN-connection. In addition, at the location „Havenwelten“ one of the two terminals has been equipped with a WLAN-Hotspot, which illuminates a large area of the bus stop with public WLAN.
The terminal has also been equipped with a WLAN-transmitter, which allows data transmission with duly equipped busses during a bus stop as well as during arrival and departure. This location based information for passengers offers a new dimension of service quality and means of transferring information. The operation test has already taken place and the results are being analyzed at the moment.
