Smart Cities Pilot - MijnGemeente (MyMunicipality) - Leiedal

In the MijnGemeente pilot we want to personalise information on municipal websites based on information provided by users.

country:
Belgium
organisation:
Leiedal

The MijnZwevegem pilot will lead to:

  • A generic method and infrastructure to implement personalised and localised information on a municipal website.
  • A method to define preferences asked to customers in the registration.
  • Training for webmasters and communication officers of the municipalities.
Pilot information:
  • All municipalities had the chance to apply for a pilot, Zwevegem did.
  • Zwevegem is looking for retagging some content for three target groups: families, businesses and businesses.
  • Leiedal is looking for an interface for presenting this content in a usable way, and is looking for the profile registration and how profile information can be linked with the website information (news, products, pages…)

This pilot shall lead to generic technology.

  •  A pilot MijnZwevegem
  • user registration (name, address, contact details, preferences: businesses, youngsters, families)
  • all forms on the website can be prefilled with user profile information
  • products, news, pages and addresses are shown related to preferences (businesses, youngsters, families)
  • content is (re)tagged in function of the above
  • map shows where persons lives + points of interest
  • registration for a newsletter
  • after realisation of project contact database: links to applications and other databases
  • A generic method and infrastructure to implement personalised information on a municipal website.
  • A method to define preferences asked to customers in the registration.
  • Training for webmasters and communication officers of the municipalities.
Background to the pilot:

On January 2009 the twelve municipalities in the Kortrijk region launched their new websites. These websites use the same Drupal-powered platform. Special attention was given to usability.

Features are:

  • common tree structure
  • related news, products, pages and addresses for each item, facilitating better finding of information
  • geographic features: map for each address, thematic maps

In the project of MijnGemeente we want to personalise information based on user information. Users can register themselves on the website with their name, address and specific choices, such as an inscription to a newsletter. So far, 1.600 people did so. For now, the two benefits for registration are:

  • prefilled forms: name, address, birth date is filled in automatically in a form
  • registration for a newsletter (although registration for a newsletter is also possible without that profile registration on other parts of the site)

Based on the taxonomy of the websites which already produces related information, the user profile and the user address, we want to make a page with geolocated and personalised information.

In the future, we also want to link the user profile with information coming from other databases. (see project contact database)

This project should lead to a web based infrastructure and a manual & training for local governments.

Business case:

Main benefits are better targeted communication of services and possible channel shift between classic media and online media

Customer benefits:

  • easier filling in of forms (filled in by registered profile)
  • related products must lead to better knowledge of products for a target group and so a better take up of services targeted to them

Performance benefits:

  • Municipalities communicate more targeted
  • Registration delivers e-mail addresses useful for communication
  • Better filled in forms

Employee benefits:

  • Better view on customers
  • Better filled in forms

Financial benefits:

  • Reduction of use of classic communication tools

Project benefits:

  • Basis for further integration of personal information stored in different databases
  • Basis for customer profiling
