Towards Smart(er) Cities - presentation to the 'Creating Smarter Cities' conference by Mark Deakin, Edinburgh Napier

Mark Deakin began by looking at the growth of the concept of 'smart cities', and asked whether the growth in the number of cities calling themselves 'smart' was an example of branding, or a reflection of more fundamental attempts to re-invent cities through the use of ICTs. He then argued that what was important was the development of 'intelligent' cities, and gave some examples of how these intelligent cities were developing in the UK.
